Course Description
3-month Acupuncture and Moxibustion Program of Introductory Level is offered to those who possess no prior education of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) but interested in learning TCM. Combine theory with practice; classroom lectures with clinical practice is to be followed. Apart from the traditional way of learning of sitting through classes, participants also get valuable opportunity of practicing in a local clinic as a group of 4 or 5 learners. The course is recognized by the World Health Organization.

Host University
Established in 1956, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the four earliest colleges of traditional Chinese medicine in China. The university has taken a leading position in the colleges of traditional Chinese medicine in China, with integration of education, medicine and scientific research, complete disciplines and majors and high-quality faculty.

The International Acupuncture Training Center was founded with the entrust of the World Health Organization back in the 70's. In the past over 30 years since its establishment, this college has trained nearly 6,000 TCM doctors, acupuncturists and physical therapists from almost 100 countries and regions in the world, The College has a very good reputation for its educational quality in clinical practice with 15 bases including the affiliated hospitals, research institutes, other municipal hospitals and hospitals with special departments.

Teaching Method
Lectures in classroom, coaching in groups, clinical practice, lectures on a special topic and visits to hospitals will be undertaken so as to consolidate the acquired knowledge and technique.

Clinical Practice Schedule
Participants will practice in a local hospital with a group of 4-5.
1-2 week: theories classes whole day
3-4 week: clinical practice three times/week
5 week onward: clinical practice in the mornings, lectures in the afternoon

  • General introduction to treatment with acupuncture and moxibustion

Teaching Purpose and Requirements
Through 3 months study, the participants will be able to acquire a brief understanding of basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine and a preliminary mastery of fundamentals of acupuncture and moxibustion in relation to basic techniques of manipulation and locations of about 120 commonly - used points as well as therapeutic methods of treating about 25 kinds of common diseases by applying the theory of differentiating syndromes according to channels and collaterals.

Schedule
1. The 1st period: 4 weeks (from the 1st to the 4th week)
The participants are required to understand the development of acupuncture and moxibustion in China, the basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine in relation to acupuncture and moxibustion-Yin-Yang, five elements, zang-fu (including Qi, blood, body fluid, channels and collaterals, to have an intimate knowledge and to master about 120 commonly - used points, and preliminarily know the application of the basic manipulation techniques of acupuncture and moxibustion.

2. The 2nd period: 4 weeks (from the 5th to the 8th week).
The participants are required to have an intimate knowledge of General introduction to treatment with acupuncture and Moxibustion - pathological factors, 4 diagnostic methods, differentiation syndromes (according to the eight principles, zang-fu, channels collaterals) with laying stress on differentiation of syndromes according to channels and collaterals, to apply the specific points and the basic principles of combining points and prescription, to master practical treatment - about 25 kinds of common diseases, and to perfect further the locations of the commonly - used points and the manipulation techniques of acupuncture and moxibustion.

3. The 3rd period: 5 weeks (from the 9th to the 13th week).
The participants are required, through clinical practice, to apply acupuncture and moxibustion independently in the treatment of common diseases. In this period, ear acupuncture and acupuncture anesthesia will be briefly introduced, and at the same period, general an examination will be arranged.

Evaluation and Certificates
A final examination will be held at the end of the program. Certificate will be issued to the participants who pass the examination successfully.

Accommodation

Hotel
Live in a 3-star hotel conveniently located close to the university. Single occupancy or double shared standard room. The hotel rooms are well furnished with bed, TV, telephone, fridge, private bathroom, desk, internet access and air-conditioner. Hotel facilities include laundry, gym and daily house-keeping.
Homestay
Live with a Chinese family. You'll have your private room furnished with bed, chair, desk, TV, closet, telephone and air-conditioner. Shared facilities include bathroom, kitchen, living room and dinning room. Breakfast and dinner are included.
One-bedroom Apartment
A nice apartment composed of a living area, a bedroom with a seperate kitchen and bathroom. TV, refrigerator, airconditioner, microwave oven, washing machine and modern furniture are equipped.

Airport Transfer

You need to provide us with correct flight information – flight number / flight date / airport name 2 weeks before your program starts.
